SijariEMAS utilizes SMS and phone calls to initiate and manage the referral process in Indonesia. When a health center midwife identifies a MNH complication, she sends an SMS with patient data, vital-signs, diagnosis and treatment information to SijariEMAS. The notification triggers an alarm at the referral hospital and the SMS data is displayed on a computer screen. Hospital staff respond back to the midwife with further guidance and prepare for the incoming patient.
