New Tools to Help Detect Preeclampsia in Low-Resource Settings

Presenter: Patricia Coffey, PATH

We will display samples of a new, very low-cost diagnostic test for preeclampsia developed by LifeAssay Ltd (South Africa) in collaboration with PATH. This protein/creatinine ratiometric urine strip test has been validated with clinical samples at the University of Pittsburgh and will soon enter a prospective clinical trial in Mozambique nested within the University of British Columbia’s Community-Level Interventions for Preeclampsia (CLIP) study. In addition, we will show a flipchart that describes PATH’s ongoing work with newer biomarkers for preeclampsia, such as PlGF and urine congophilia, that offer the potential to improve screening.
