Increasing Access to Lifesaving Human Milk Through Technology and Systems Innovations

Presenter: Kiersten Israel-Ballard, PATH

Provision of donor human milk (DHM) improves neonatal health, yet scale up globally has been limited due to lack of appropriate technologies and systems. As part of its newborn care and nutrition strategies, PATH is strengthening human milk banking (HMB) worldwide by addressing gaps with innovations for simplified technologies (pasteurization systems and point-of-care diagnostics), for developing and evaluating operational systems to integrate provision of DHM with breastfeeding promotion and Kangaroo Mother Care, and with conducting global advocacy to increase awareness. At this Marketplace, PATH will showcase recent HMB technologies, materials and models for integrated implementation to achieve greatest impact.
