Ghana Health Services and PATH’s Making Every Baby Count Initiative are using a five day training package which includes the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) developed Helping Babies Breathe curricula (2 days), AAP’s developed Essential Care to Every Newborn (ECEB) (2 days) and Newborn Infection Prevention (one day; training adapted from diverse sources, including the Pan American Health Organization, CDC and Jhpiego). The link between the 3 components of the training package and key steps of the interactive training are demonstrated. Lessons learned from the preparation, implementation and first supervision post-training visit are discussed. The supplies needed to practice ECEB, HBB and IP skills are made available as well as complementary training job aids developed in-country and Ghana’s adapted version of WHO pocket book on hospital care for children are made available.
